about

This is the oldest piece, one dating back to May 25, 2019.

The recording began with an experiment. We queued up a film in the background to provide visual inspiration. The initial Digitakt and Bass VI layer thus provided an alternative score to Ridley Scott's 1986 film, Legend. Then, we recorded a layer of the Microfreak and Telecaster. Finally, we overdubbed live drumming from an Alesis SamplePad4.

Because of the piece's peculiar pacing, it didn't seem like we could make this a traditional vocal track. It also lacked a dominant lead tone which could make it a viable candidate for a standalone instrumental. There was an unsettling quality to the piece which dictated another sort of solution.

We searched through the public domain archives and located a 1950s radio play rendition of the 19th century classic Oliver Twist. We cut out arbitrary portions of the Romanian-language dialogue and imposed it upon the piece. The track was now complete. The working title was "The Past Speaks." Ultimately, though, its atmosphere stood in stark contrast with the rest of the material from the sessions. It therefore became one of the two unused tracks from the middle of 2019 to make its way onto Guilt in the Faithless Age. The only change we made was adapting the title into Romanian so as to evoke the appropriated words more effectively.
