about

Created for an Electronic Curiosity Collective challenge based around collaboration, this track was created with the aid of modular drums provided by Bay Area synthesist Malarki who used the Make Noise Mysteron and the Verbos Multistage. This was the first time we worked with someone outside our immediate circle in addition to working with any kind of modular creations. To complete this stage of the collaboration, we asked him to select which instruments we'd use.
We took his three drum parts and arranged them in a way that made sense to us. We placed them in our Tascam multitrack recorded then proceeded to do a live Bass VI layer and with simultaneous Microfreak perfomance processed by a Boss PS-3 pedal. Following that, we used the last of Malarki's suggestions: our Takamine acoustic guitar.
We placed a microphone in front of it, as we typically do. However, we also took advantage of its electric output and ran it through a massive pedalboard. The improvised acoustic guitar essentially became the center of a live dub performance. The pedal that stole the show was the Electro-Harmonix Attack Decay.

After a few minor cuts and edits on the multitracks, we sent the stems to Malarki. We also made a rough mix for ourselves. When the contest rolled around, Malarki created a spacious ambient rendition out of the work, along with a video: all of it is available on IGTV.

For the album, however, we will provide listeners with the rough mix of the track. The title, an untranslatable Portuguese take on longing, will serve as the closer to our final new release of the decade.
