Punctuation Swiftly Appears

about

Recorded in early September as part of the Electronic Curiosity Collective's all-drum challenge, this piece began as a seven minute improvisation involving two men and three Korg Volcas. The Volca FM provided a steady kick pattern while the Volca Drum and Volca Beats were used for dynamic rhythms.

Overdubs ensued. A Telecaster tuned to GGDDGG was processed live through a series of Behringer pedals and the Electribe ES-1's Decimator function. Then, another overdub involving the Waldorf Streichfett and a Bass VI. This is a rare instance of the bassline appearing on the third overdub. Finally, the Alesis SamplePad4 was used to add live, unquantized percussion.

The seven minute jam was split into two parts. The first three minutes became this instrumental song, though we omitted the synthesizer. The title came from an unused stanza in the B. Davis archives. Originally posted on IGTV, "Punctuation Swiftly Appears" will feature a partially revised mix for the album release.
